Description
Lucerne, a compact city in Switzerland known for its preserved medieval architecture, sits amid snow capped mountains on Lake Lucerne. The Kapellbrücke (Chapel Bridge) is a covered wooden footbridge spanning the river Reuss diagonally in the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. It serves as the city's symbol and as one of Switzerland's main tourist attractions. The Chapel Bridge – an incredible 650 years old – served not only in its early days as a means of crossing the river on foot, but also as part of the town’s fortifications. Right next to Kapellbrücke, lies Spreuerbrücke (Spreuer Bridge), which is a 15th-century, covered pedestrian bridge featuring a series of paintings with death motifs. The Reuss (Swiss German: Rüüss) is a river in Switzerland. With a length of 164 kilometres (102 mi), it is the fourth largest river in Switzerland.
